Aluminum Removal from Leachate of Recycled Lithium Iron Phosphate Batteries

Aluminum Removal from Leachate of Recycled Lithium Iron Phosphate Batteries: With the extensive use of lithium iron phosphate batteries, the recycling of used batteries has become a new task. Recycling not only reduces the environmental impact of used batteries but also brings certain economic benefits and lowers battery costs.

Aluminum Removal from Leachate of Recycled Lithium Iron Phosphate Batteries

To simplify the recycling process and reduce recycling costs, researchers domestically and internationally have developed various hydrometallurgical recycling technologies. The main process involves roasting and crushing the used batteries to obtain a mixed material, then removing aluminum to obtain a mixture of iron and lithium slag, while leaching out iron and lithium elements. Subsequently, selective precipitation is used to obtain lithium products.

In most hydrometallurgical leaching methods for recovering lithium elements, both iron and lithium elements are leached simultaneously, followed by further separation of iron and lithium. However, this often consumes a large amount of acid and results in leachate containing impurities and the generation of a large amount of high-salinity wastewater.

To address these issues, Jiangsu Haipu has developed a comprehensive recycling solution for used lithium iron phosphate batteries. This solution provides a method for removing aluminum from the leachate of used lithium iron phosphate batteries and recycling it. The impurity removal process includes using adsorption resin to remove metal impurities such as copper, aluminum, and iron.

The entire process is simple, environmentally friendly, with high recovery rates of metals like aluminum and iron, low production costs, and significant economic benefits. Additionally, the purification of the leachate further enhances product quality, promoting the development of lithium-ion battery recycling.
