Marigold Extract - Lutein Plant Extract Resin Lutein (also known as Plant Lutein), English name Lutein, is a type of carotenoid that is a natural pigment found in various vegetables, fruits, flowers, plants, and algae. Due to its high color, strong coloring power, and high nutritional value, it has been widely used in medicine, food care, feed additives, and other fields.

At present, the main methods used for extracting lutein both domestically and internationally are:

The enzyme treatment method has a long processing time and requires the removal of a large amount of water from the enzyme treatment process before extraction. Moreover, the high cost of enzymes limits the practical application of this method;

Supercritical CO2 extraction method can only effectively extract lipophilic substances, and can hardly extract polar substances at reasonable temperature and pressure, resulting in low selectivity and poor separation efficiency;

The solubility of solutes is not sensitive enough to changes in temperature and pressure, resulting in an increase in energy consumption when solutes are separated from supercritical fluids;

Microwave assisted extraction method uses microwave radiation to penetrate the extraction solvent and enter the plant cells. The heating process will damage the active components of the target product.

At present, solvent extraction is generally used in industry to separate lutein, and some use macroporous adsorption resins to adsorb lutein. However, lutein produced by solvent extraction inevitably has solvent residues.

A method developed by Haipu for separating and extracting lutein is used to solve the difficulties of lutein separation and low yield. The developed plant extraction HPT resin is used to adsorb and separate lutein. The pretreated lutein saponification solution is passed through an adsorption column equipped with ultra-high cross-linking resin, and the lutein solution is obtained through adsorption and desorption processes.

This HPT resin, combined with relevant adsorption and separation processes, avoids environmental pollution problems and is a clean and environmentally friendly production process. It can not only be used in the extraction process of lutein, but also in the separation process of other alcohols and organic acids.
