How to Choose Upgrading Technology for Sewage Treatment Plants

Description: At present, China's sewage treatment plants mainly implement the first level A or first level B standards in the pollutant discharge standards for urban sewage treatment plants (GB18918-2002). With the increasingly severe environmental situation, it is imperative to raise sewage standards, but existing sewage standard treatment technologies are difficult to meet the above requirements in terms of technology or economy. Jiangsu Haipu has developed special adsorbents and combined them with adsorption technology to meet the requirements of wastewater treatment plant upgrading and ensure effluent quality.

At present, China's sewage treatment plants mainly comply with the first level B standard or first level A standard of the pollutant discharge standards for urban sewage treatment plants (GB18918-2002), where the COD index is required to be lower than 60mg/L and 50mg/L, respectively. In order to win the battle to defend the blue water and protect the aquatic ecological environment, the national and local requirements for sewage discharge indicators will become increasingly strict. The standards will be upgraded from Level B to Level A, and from Level A to Surface Standard Four (GB3838-2002). The Surface Standard Four requires COD to be less than 30mg/L, and COD compliance is one of the key requirements. Except for a small amount of suspended solids, most of the dissolved organic matter in the existing external drainage belongs to recalcitrant inert substances with poor biodegradability. Therefore, seeking a stable and reliable sewage treatment upgrading process technology is an urgent task.

The common sewage standard treatment processes include the following:

(1) Materialization method

High density sedimentation tank, coagulation sedimentation, sand filtration, multi-media filtration and other silent processes can effectively remove suspended particles and colloids in water, and the operation is simple. However, due to the characteristics of the effluent quality outside the sewage treatment plant, the COD removal effect of such methods is limited.

The activated carbon adsorption process can utilize activated carbon with a large specific surface area to adsorb and remove dissolved organic matter from water, ensuring the quality of the effluent and achieving fast and efficient results. However, due to the need for regeneration or replacement of saturated activated carbon, there may be incomplete regeneration and the production of hazardous carbon waste after replacement, resulting in high overall operating costs.

(2) Biological Law

Biochemical processes utilize the metabolic activity of microorganisms to degrade pollutants, with simple treatment and low operating costs. Biochemical processes such as aerated biofilters and MBR can not only degrade residual dissolved organic matter in water, but also intercept suspended particulate matter in water. But for the discharge outside the sewage treatment plant, the treatment effect is limited, and advanced oxidation and other processes need to be combined to improve the treatment efficiency.

(3) Chemical oxidation method

Adding oxidants (such as sodium hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide, ozone, etc.) to water to degrade organic matter can achieve certain results, but the oxidation efficiency is low and the operating cost is high. Advanced oxidation technologies such as ozone catalytic oxidation and Fenton reagent oxidation utilize hydroxyl radicals to oxidize recalcitrant pollutants in water, which can improve oxidation efficiency. However, there are also shortcomings, such as high operating costs and equipment investment for ozone catalytic oxidation, and high operating costs for Fenton oxidation resulting in secondary pollution such as chemical sludge.

(4) Haipu Special Adsorption Technology

Jiangsu Haipu Functional Materials Co., Ltd. is a technology-based environmental protection enterprise dedicated to the research and industrialization of high-performance adsorbents and catalysts. In 2018, it was approved as the Suzhou Adsorption and Catalytic Functional Nanomaterials Engineering Technology Research Center. Through years of independent research and development, it has achieved international leading levels in ion exchange technology and adsorption technology, nano inorganic material hybridization technology, etc., realizing the serialization of adsorption and catalytic products and successfully applying them in the fields of environmental protection and resource recycling.

Compared with other processing technologies, Haipu adsorption technology has the following advantages:

1) Efficiently removing organic and colored substances from wastewater, effectively reducing COD and chromaticity;

2) Special adsorbent materials have the characteristics of high absorption capacity and high concentration ratio, with low equipment investment and low operating costs;

3) Automated control, easy operation, convenient maintenance, and long service life.

At present, the selection of upgrading processes for sewage treatment plants is still limited. Through in-depth research and technological accumulation, Jiangsu Haipu has developed special adsorption materials and supporting adsorption processes that not only ensure stable COD compliance, but also have significant removal effects on other pollutants such as ammonia nitrogen, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, etc., effectively solving the problem of upgrading sewage treatment plants.
