The Important Role of Inorganic VOC Adsorbent Activated Carbon in Daily Life

In recent years, air pollution control has received much attention, and VOC adsorption method is one of the important methods for purifying volatile organic compounds. This method has the advantages of mature technology, convenient operation, cost reduction, and high purification capacity. VOC is an important factor affecting indoor air quality, and the vast majority of VOCs have characteristics such as irritability and toxicity, which can have subtle and harmful effects on the health of indoor personnel. The following text uses VOC adsorbents to reduce or avoid the harm caused by volatile organic compounds to people.

An ideal VOC adsorbent should typically have the following characteristics: a large specific surface area, a large adsorption capacity, reversible adsorption, strong surface dredging performance, high heat stability, strong regenerability, and affordable cost. Adsorbents are divided into two types: inorganic and organic adsorbents, with inorganic adsorbents being more commonly used. The most commonly used inorganic VOC adsorbent is activated carbon. Activated carbon can treat high air volume, low concentration organic waste gas, recover solvents, and does not require heating, with high purification efficiency and low operating costs. But it also has drawbacks: the exhaust gas needs to be pre treated before Zhihua, the ability to bully high concentrations is poor, the equipment is too large, and the footprint is large. Therefore, activated carbon has a significant purification effect on large molecule VOCs such as benzene derivatives, but its adsorption performance on small molecule pollutants such as formaldehyde is poor.

Due to the presence of unbalanced and unsaturated molecular attraction or chemical bonding forces on the surface of activated carbon, when the surface of activated carbon comes into contact with gas, it can attract gas molecules, causing them to concentrate and remain on the surface of activated carbon. This phenomenon is called adsorption. By utilizing the adsorption capacity of activated carbon surface, the exhaust gas is brought into contact with the porous activated carbon on the large surface. The pollutants in the exhaust gas are adsorbed on the surface of the activated carbon, separated from the gas mixture, and the purified gas is discharged at high altitude. So activated carbon is the most common, inexpensive, and widely used VOC adsorbent.
