World Environment Day | Blue Sky Protection Battle, Haipu in Action

World Environment Day is one of the main mediums through which the United Nations promotes global environmental awareness, encourages governments to pay attention to environmental issues, and take action.

Since its establishment, it has developed into the largest global environmental celebration, reflecting the awareness and attitudes of people around the world towards environmental issues.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) selects a member country each year to host the “World Environment Day” commemorative activities on June 5.

History of World Environment Day:

Since the 1960s, environmental pollution and ecological destruction have become increasingly severe worldwide, drawing the attention of the international community to environmental issues and protection.

On June 5, 1972, the United Nations held the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment in Stockholm, Sweden. The conference adopted the “Declaration on the Human Environment” and proposed that June 5 be designated as “World Environment Day” each year.

In October of the same year, the 27th United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution accepting this recommendation.

This Year’s Theme

Air pollution is one of the most severe environmental issues facing the international community today.

The theme for World Environment Day 2019 is “Beat Air Pollution,” urging governments, industries, communities, and individuals to explore renewable energy and green technologies to improve air quality in cities and regions worldwide.

China’s theme for this year’s Environment Day is “Blue Sky Protection Battle, I am an Actor.”

The aim is to further mobilize the entire society to actively participate in ecological civilization construction, reduce energy resource consumption and pollution emissions through practical actions, and consciously practice green production and lifestyle to win the battle against pollution, including the Blue Sky Protection Battle.

VOCs, or volatile organic compounds, are defined by the World Health Organization as compounds with a boiling point between 50-250°C and a saturated vapor pressure exceeding 133.32 Pa at room temperature, existing in the air as vapor.

VOCs have complex compositions, with over 300 types currently monitored. They mainly come from industries such as construction decoration, organic chemicals, petroleum and petrochemicals, packaging and printing, and surface coating.

VOCs are one of the four major air pollutants and are significant contributors to PM2.5 formation and photochemical smog. They can damage the human nervous system, blood components, and cardiovascular system, posing significant threats to human health and the social environment.

In response to the characteristics of volatile organic waste gases, Haipu has developed special high-polymer adsorbents.

These adsorbents can specifically remove organic waste gases from wastewater, achieving high-efficiency adsorption and thorough desorption of the components in the waste gas, ensuring that the treated gas meets emission standards.

Our advantages are mainly reflected in the following points:

Suitable for various organic waste gases, efficiently removing harmful components from the gas with a high removal rate, and strictly controlling the pollutant content in the exhaust.

Adsorbing and recovering valuable components from the waste gas, improving resource utilization.

Low equipment investment and operating costs, with safe and reliable processes.

Modular components with high automation and simple operation.

Protecting the Blue Sky, Striving Forward

Haipu continuously innovates in organic waste gas treatment, collaborating with partners to contribute to the Blue Sky Protection Battle.

Currently, our company has completed multiple organic waste gas treatment projects.

For example, we designed a process for treating 2000m³/h of dichloromethane waste gas for a chemical enterprise, solving the issue of non-compliant emissions.

Using adsorption treatment, we can recover most of the dichloromethane from the waste gas, recovering 1296 kg of dichloromethane daily, adding 983,400 yuan in annual economic benefits for the enterprise.

We designed a process for treating 12000m³/h of toluene waste gas for a biopharmaceutical enterprise, solving the issue of non-compliant emissions.

Using adsorption treatment, we can recover most of the toluene from the waste gas, adding 4,083,800 yuan in annual economic benefits for the enterprise.

We designed a process for treating 3000mg/m³ of toluene waste gas for a petrochemical enterprise, solving the issue of non-compliant emissions.

After comparison and inspection, the enterprise chose our technology. The adsorption process reduces the toluene content to 5mg/m³, recovering about 50 tons of toluene annually, with significant and stable results.

A production workshop of an enterprise generates 3000m³/h of dichloroethane waste gas with a concentration of 30000mg/m³.

Considering the feasibility, investment and operating economy, convenience, and safety of various treatment technologies, the enterprise decided to adopt Haipu’s technology.

After treatment with our adsorption technology, the dichloroethane content is reduced to ≤30mg/m³, ensuring that the exhaust can be integrated into the subsequent RTO system.
