Yangtze River Protection | Haipu: Always Ready

200 million years ago, the Yangtze River originated from Tanggula Mountain and flowed from west to east into the East China Sea, winding for thousands of miles and surging with waves, giving birth to the long and brilliant Chinese civilization.

But with the rapid development of the economy and society and the impact of human activities on both sides of the strait, the ecological environment of the Yangtze River Basin has also been polluted and damaged to a certain extent.

Yangtze River Protection | Haipu: Always Ready

According to statistics, the total discharge of wastewater, COD, and ammonia nitrogen in the Yangtze River Economic Belt accounts for 43%, 37%, and 43% of the national total, respectively. The ecological system pattern has undergone drastic changes, with a reduction in the area of farmland, forests, grasslands, rivers, lakes, wetlands, and other ecosystems. The upstream soil erosion is severe, while the middle and lower reaches of lakes shrink and wetland ecosystem functions degrade. The Yangtze River needs our protection.

In early 2016, General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed the concept of "Great Protection of the Yangtze River" at the symposium on promoting the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

The protection of the Yangtze River is also a daunting task urgently needed to be completed based on the strategy of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

Two years have passed now, and various provinces in the Yangtze River Basin have undergone strong governance and restoration, making the water in the Yangtze River clearer. Taking Hubei Province as an example.

In June, the relevant person in charge of the Hubei Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment introduced that in recent years, Hubei Province has vigorously promoted the protection of the Yangtze River. Through the implementation of 1916 water pollutant reduction projects, an additional 828000 tons of sewage treatment capacity are added every day.

Overall, in 2018, the surface water environment quality in Hubei Province remained stable and improved. Among the 114 sections included in the national assessment, the proportion of sections with excellent water quality was 86%, an increase of 1.8% year-on-year, which is 15% higher than the national average; The proportion of inferior Class V sections is 1.8%, a year-on-year decrease of 2.6%, lower than the national 4.9%.

The average annual concentrations of major pollution indicators such as permanganate index, ammonia nitrogen, and total phosphorus in surface water rivers in Hubei Province have decreased by 6.5%, 33.3%, and 19.4% respectively compared to 2015.

Haipu Functional Materials Co., Ltd. is located in Jiangsu, a key area of the Yangtze River Protection and Restoration Campaign Action Plan.

As a high-tech enterprise specializing in the research and development of high-performance adsorbents, catalysts, and their process applications, Haipu Functional Materials has continuously achieved new results in the treatment of ammonia nitrogen wastewater and phosphorus containing wastewater through practical applications.

Treatment of Ammonia Nitrogen Wastewater in a Biochemical Enterprise

Process design was carried out for 300t/d ammonia nitrogen containing wastewater from a certain biochemical enterprise to solve the problem of high ammonia nitrogen content in the wastewater and substandard biochemical treatment. The wastewater is first adsorbed to remove most of the ammonia nitrogen substances, and then enters the biochemical system for treatment. The effluent can meet the discharge standards.

A company requires that the ammonia nitrogen content in the treated wastewater be less than 20mg/L. Experimental treatment results show that using adsorption treatment can stabilize the removal rate of ammonia nitrogen in the wastewater at over 90%, and the ammonia nitrogen content in the effluent can be controlled below 10mg/L.

Keeping a certain safety margin while ensuring compliance with customer requirements can effectively prevent water quality fluctuations in the incoming wastewater from causing substandard effluent.
